Birth Story!

Ara Aviendha
8lbs 3oz
21 inches long
Born April 4th at 6:20pm

Okay here it is finally! Ara's birth story...

So the night of April 3rd I woke up a couple times during the night with somewhat painful contractions. This didn't really surprise me because I had been getting a lot of braxtons hicks for the past couple of months but they did feel a bit different than usual. I didn't think much about it because I didn't want to get my hopes up but during the day on April 4th I had the odd one here and there and I could definitely tell they were more the real deal. I definitely wasn't in labour but I thought it was likely coming soon. At 4pm I was suddenly hit with a contraction that actually hurt quite bad. Enough to make me stop and just wait for it to end. It was also enough to make me go get Travis from his shop where he was working on a couple of projects and ask him to come watch the boys so I could get in the shower. I had one more contraction in the shower (5 mins later) and I suddenly knew that this baby was coming fast. I got out of the shower and sure enough 5 mins after the last one another hit so I yelled down to Trav to get his stuff together. We managed to get out of the house by 5:05pm and were at the hospital at 5:30. I had one contraction in front of my nurse and she decided she better check me and sure enough I was already 8cms dilated so they got me into a delivery room right away. We were at the hospital for an entire 50 minutes before Ara was born! What a quick delivery!
There were so many things about her birth that I loved. I loved that I got to go into labour on my own this time (I was induced with both boys), I loved that when I got to the hospital I told my nurse I didn't want any drugs this time and then was told by her 5 mins later that I would be getting my wish because there wasn't any time for drugs! I loved that despite the pain I was able to feel everything and therefore could be so much more pro-active in getting her out. I loved the moment when they told me she was a girl, and the subsequent moments every few minutes of every day when I realize again that I did in fact have a girl this time! I love that she came out so quickly and everything went so smoothly. I love how quick my healing time has been and I love that because of that I have the energy I want to enjoy not only Ara but also my boys and the beautiful spring weather.
So there you have it! I couldn't ask for a more perfect delivery!

  1. I can't wait to hear more about it. It is hard to imagine experiencing that and it's really interesting to me the difference between drugs/no drugs and all the other "details."

Looking forward to meeting Ara soon and hearing more about all of this from you!! Yes!
