A Few of My Favorite Things...

A few months ago, Travis and I decided to switch to all natural "beauty" and cleaning products. Here are a few of my new favorite items.

Imperialis Moisturizer by Lush

Pumpkin Patch Soap by Rocky Mountain Soap Company

Fresh Water Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner by Live Clean

Vitamin E Hand and Body Lotion by Jason

That's all I use now for "beauty" products. I use the pumpkin patch soap on my face too and I love it!

For cleaning products I use a lot of just baking soda and vinegar, which is amazing, but for bathroom cleaners and for dish soap I use Method.

I really do like using all natural products, I find that my hair and skin generally feel better and when I'm cleaning it's so nice to not use bleach! Method has great smelling products and really when something smells good it's just more enjoyable to use!

If you use any natural products what do you use? What do you love?

I use a lot of that same stuff that you use. My toughest find so far has been deodorant. Right now I'm using an Alba tea tree oil deodorant and it's the best natural deodorant by far that i've used thus far.

What do you use for laundry? I just started using soap nuts. They seem to do a good job, it just freaks me about a bit that there are no suds and no smell. How do you judge whether it's clean or not?! ha ha

Oooh I just read Kara's comment..you should tell her to try norwex crystal spray. It's like the rocks but liquidized..totally natural. It works awesome (for odour not wetness) but I feel so much better not using aluminum. I also love the pumpkin patch soap, I use small planet germs be gone for everythng. I love that it is made in calgary and now you can buy it concentrated and dillute yourself.

I think my other fave right now is Toms of Maine natural toothpaste with fluoride. I did some research and decided I wasn't ready to risk giving up fluoride but wanted toothpaste without triclosan and artificial sweetner so I was happy to find toms of maine with fluoride line. A happy medium!

For laundry I use either Nelly's Laundry Soda or Seventh Generation Laundry Detergent. I like Nelly's for the fact that it comes in bags instead of a bottle (less waste), but I LOVE the smells that Seventh Generation comes in so they are tied. It's actually nice to use the Seventh Generation stuff for cloth diapers, helps get the smell out a bit better.

For deoderant I use Toms of Maine, same with their toothpaste. The deoderant I really like, but if I'm working hard I have to apply it a couple times during the day. The toothpaste I love, I get it with baking soda, no flouride, mostly because then I can use it on Kaed's teeth too as he still swallows toothpaste.

That whole no suds and no smell thing is kind what Nelly's is like too, it suds a tiny bit though, but still you have to wonder! I figure though if pooped on diapers can come out with little or no smell and no stains then it must be working! If you'd like, I could send you a poopy diaper in the mail and you could try washing it with your soap nuts. hehe.

Oh yes, Hilda, please send me a pooopy diaper. That would be great. :P

I use Seventh Generation for some other products like dishwasher detergent and dish soap, I think i might switch to that because I miss nice smelling laundry.

Thanks to Jen for the deodorant tip! I don't know who you are...but I like you. :)

I just bought Liken Earth Science deodorant but I'm not sure about it. AFter about 2 weeks of using it, I find it's really drying my skin out and it's starting to hurt. I liked it at first b/c it had no smell, and most of the other naturals I sniffed smelt too strong, which I don't like. Hilda, does Toms smell strong?

I also use Method cleaning products, hand soap and dish soap. Love them. The hand soap also now comes in refilable bags, so you don't have to buy the plastic bottle every time. I also just picked up natural bathroom cleaner but I can't remember the brand... I'll let you know.

I haven't tried a natural laundry detergetnt yet, in fear of John's retaliation (he likes the 'clean' smell). However, my friend Jessie uses oil fragrance in her laundry to add a bit of smell.

I also use Hempz lotion. I have to check the ingredients thoroughly, but it's made from natural hemp seed oil and vitamin E. I love it.

Hi I just wanted to see if you had any advice on a good shampoo. I cant ever find any natural ones that dont strip my hair too much. The lush bars make my hair squeaky clean, literally... I think its removing all the oils too so I dont like that.

I use soap nuts and they say they are awesome for smells and cloth diapers!

Jason has a really good aloe deodorant too.

My all time favorite shampoo and conditioner is still Live Clean, they have a great selection, it washes and conditions really well, it's natural, and you can find it just about anywhere.

Also... new note, I don't use Lush at all anymore. They actually aren't so natural....

Yeah I used to like Lush but I definitely dont like a lot of their ingredients now. I like Saje stuff. Also Lush scents are WAY to stinky for me. Sooo strong@
